Event description

Description

This one day training event has been designed to support all practitioners working directly with pupils on the autism spectrum, whether in mainstream or specialist settings. Each delegate will receive a certificate of attendance.

The training is Good Autism Practice (Tier 2) and will

- enable practitioners to develop their knowledge and understanding of good autism practice

- provide guidelines and activities to support practitioners to reflect on and improve their own practice.

The Good Autism Practice training looks to support practitioners in developing the core competencies required for those working with autistic children and young people in education to deliver best practice. These have been identified by the wider autism community (autistic individuals, parents, teachers and researchers). The training focusses on four areas: the individual pupil; building relationships; the curriculum and enabling environments. Whilst practical strategies and interventions are explored, importantly the reason why such strategies and interventions might be used is examined. In understanding the rationale for different types of support, practitioners are in an even better position to not only deliver those strategies and interventions discussed, but also to develop their own.

The training uses a range of teaching tools developed by the Autism Education Trust including video, case studies, problem-solving scenarios, presentations, practical resources and activities.

This course is offered at no cost to Oval Learning Cluster schools. Schools will be charged for any participants who book but do not attend. External participants may also join the course for a fee, spaces permitting - please contact us for details.
