FULL programme: 25% discount if you book all 4 seminars.

ACOSVO Members £210, Non Members £250

(Cost per single seminar: £65 ACOSVO Member, £75 Non-Member)

Audience: Chief Officers (CO), Chairs and Trustees (CO/Trustees are encouraged to attend in pairs)

The importance of good governance for third sector organisations cannot be underestimated. CO, new and experienced board members continue to express their desire for on-going support. This series of seminars aims to help CO, trustees, and those who work closely with them, understand and carry out their governance responsibilities and to develop their capacity to make decisions and provide leadership in challenging times.  CO/Trustee attendance in pairings encouraged.

The outputs and benefits of the seminars will be:

  • Discussion stimulated by participant experience in light of recent research
  • Identification of available resources and good practice guides, with discussion about how they apply in various trustee roles
  • Encouraging greater awareness and debate about governance and its significance for the voluntary and community sectors in Scotland

Although the seminars are on a complementary theme, they can be taken as stand-alone events.

Good Governance 1: Leadership, Roles and Relationships

2nd March 16.00 - 20.00, Edinburgh

Governance in third sector organisations is vital and complex. Leadership is not straightforward and roles and relationships require careful management. This seminar explains and explores expectations, common issues, and good practice and looks in some detail at the Board, Chair and Chief Executive roles and relationships.

Good Governance 2: Board Self-Assessment, Learning and Development

27th April 16.00 - 20.00, Edinburgh

Governance, like all activities in an organisation, is a candidate for regular review and assessment. One indicator of best practice is a programme of Board learning and development. This seminar examines assessment techniques, debates common resistances to using them, and explores what the essentials are when it comes to Board training and development, at both a collective and individual level.

Good Governance 3: Enabling Change and Decision-Making

31st August 16:00 - 20:00, Edinburgh

Change has always been a feature of the life of organisations and especially in these uncertain times. The changes may or may not be welcome; but it matters that the process is robust and well informed, and this includes sound decision-making even in times of high anxiety. This seminar presents the research on Boards and organisational change, and explores what helps and hinders change management and decision-making at Board level.

Good Governance 4: Working Together - Collaboration with Partners

24th October 16:00 - 20:00, Edinburgh

A Board working together as a group or team is essential to modern governance, as is the Board’s capacity for accountability across the organisation’s partners. However, the demands on Board members and the potential for conflicts of interest are often problematic. This seminar examines the issues, explores current practice and provides tips and techniques to strengthen Board effectiveness.

These seminars are aimed at third sector CO, Chairs and Trustees. Please invite your organisation’s Trustees.
