GOODNESS & GHOULS

A half-term, mindfulness inspired retreat for you and your little pumpkins!

(PLEASE NOTE, WE HAVE EDITED THIS FROM A WHOLE DAY RETREAT TO A COUPLE OF HOURS IN THE AFTERNOON INSTEAD - LET US KNOW IF YOU WOULD LIKE SPECIFICALLY TO BE KEPT INFORMED OF LONGER RETREATS FOR PARENTS AND KIDS IN FUTURE SCHOOL HOLIDAYS)

The gift of time is high on everyone’s wish list. This retreat gives you just that. Time with your little one to connect; time for you to just ‘be’. The fun, relaxing day includes a multitude of activities including yoga, mindfulness and forest bathing. These activities give both parents and children opportunities to experience inner peace, happiness and calm. A day dedicated to kindness to oneself and those we love. The day also lands on Halloween, so we will weave in some themes to celebrate this festival, traditional and modern!

Things to bring (please have lunch before you arrive):

- Water Bottle

- Yoga Clothes

- Socks

- Warm/Waterproof clothing

- Welly boots/ outdoor shoes ready for the woods!


The Schedule

12-1.45pm

FOR THE KIDS – YOGA & MINDFULNESS WITH KATY

Children will learn about the brain, the mind and thoughts. They will be introduced to mindfulness meditation and experience how this practice can help manage unhelpful thoughts.


FOR THE GROWN UPS - YOGA & MEDITATION

We will head to the beautiful Garden Room at the heart of Wasing park for an after-lunch practice of Yoga Nidra, or yogic sleep, a brilliant way to restore and give back to yourself. We will then switch into a flowing movement and breath practice, weaving in a feeling for the elements of earth, water, fire and air, finishing with a guided meditation.


1.45-2.30pm

WALK TO THE WOODS & END OF DAY SNACK AND SHARING

A chance for parents and kids to come together before the close of the day. We will connect through sharing experiences and enjoy a simple snack for all.

ABOUT THE FACILITATORS

The sessions for the children will be lead by Katie Purdy, founder of Mindful Brain. Katie has 13 years experience in primary education. Her role has included classroom teacher, SENDco, Specialist Leader of Education and Head Teacher. She is DBS checked, has completed relevant safeguarding training and holds QTS status. Katie has a passion for teaching and is trained to teach mindfulness and yoga to children. She has experience of teaching children in both school, home and community settings. She believes teaching children how to have a healthy relationship with their mind can ‘empower them to live a happy life!’

The adult session will be led by Jill Watson, Wasing’s resident yoga teacher, with over 7 years of teaching and group facilitation experience. Jill has a warm, friendly and non-dogmatic style when it comes to yoga practice - she loves to give plenty of scope for individuals to feel and explore their breath and body on a moment by moment basis. Her classes allow for plenty of time to restore, and connect deeply with yourself. They are also often peppered with traditional Sanskrit Mantra to the sound of the Harmonium, which has a deeply earthy, soothing sound. Jill is a massive lover of nature, and has recently trained to lead groups in the practice of Forest Bathing, inspired by the mindful art of Shirin Yoku as practiced in Japan.
