Google Analytics for Beginners - Jan 2026
Overview
Join us for a morning of training that will answer these questions:
- What pages do people visit?
- Where are people coming from?
- What do terms like ‘sessions’ and ‘active users’ mean?
In a carefully-paced session we'll work together to make sense of Google Analytics. You’ll get lots of opportunities to ask questions.
We’ll meet via Microsoft Teams. Remote training saves you travel time and reduces the price of the course.
About the trainer
I'm James, a Google Analytics (GA) consultant based in Thame (near Oxford) in the UK. I've been using GA for 20 years. I've had a long career in digital, which has included working for the BBC and the University of Oxford (where I regularly ran training courses).
My mission is to help people make the most of GA. I write regularly about the subject on the Analytics Unpacked website.
About the approach
I like learning to be effective, varied, and enjoyable. There will be practical exercises and group discussion. Big groups can stifle conversation, so I keep the number of attendees to 6 or less.
I provide a month of support via email for any questions you have after the course.
Essential info
Training is: 10am-1pm (UK) on Wednesday 28th January.
In this course, you'll be exploring real-life stats. To take part you must have a GA account. Create one for free here.
You’ll also need access to GA data for a website. That data will be used for the exercises in the course. Don’t worry, you won’t have to share any stats with other attendees. You'll be asked to provide a link to that website as part of the booking process.
You can pay for the course by invoice or by credit card. Choose the method that's most convenient for you.
To take part in the course, you'll need:
- A GA account with access to data from a website
- A laptop or desktop computer with access to Teams
- A webcam (which may be built-in to the computer)
- A microphone (which may be built-in to the computer)
- A stable internet connection
- An environment where you can concentrate on learning
