Event description

Description

Join local history guide, Terry Hinkley, for a fascinating walk through some of the most interesting and colourful episodes in the history of Gosport’s Town Centre.

The surviving buildings and places reveal stories of protection rackets; the history of the Ramparts; ‘hot Press’ events in which every man and boy on the streets was pressed into the Navy; a local philanthropist with a shady past - and more…

Terry Hinkley is an excellent guide and an entertaining raconteur, with a mine of information about Gosport’s history and its role in various wars and other events.

Start & Finish: The Cockle Pond, Walpole Park (meet outside the Lakeside Café, South Street, PO12 1FA)

Duration: 2hrs
