This four-session workshop offers a fresh perspective into Gothic Literature. We will explore Medical Humanities alongside the rise of Gothic literature and its social context. This interdisciplinary workshop examines the intersection of Gothic literature and medicalisation, highlighting how medical science has shaped narratives, identities and perceptions within literary works. Together, we will critically analyse and consider the impact of medicalisation on representations of minorities in Charlotte Brontë’s Jane Eyre, Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Raven,” John William Polidori’s “The Vampyre,” Bram Stoker’s Dracula and Hilary Mantel’s Beyond Black.
