Event description

Description

Ofsted are making increased demands on governors to know their schools well. This requires governors to meet with staff at all levels in order to be able to talk to them about their work and to check for themselves the impact this is having on their school.

This session will focus on how governors can work alongside Head teachers and other senior leaders to understand

how judgements about school effectiveness are made and give them the knowledge to be able to discuss these judgements.

This interactive session will be led by an experienced, practicing Tameside Head teacher and will be delivered in an informal and relaxed environment.

What will the course cover?

A model policy on school visits – what to do and what not to do.

An opportunity to share practices and ideas.

Different types of focuses for these visits e.g. meetings with co-ordinators, learning walks with senior leaders, work scrutinies with senior leaders.

What to look for and what to ask.

How to record findings from visits and confidentiality?

This is a very sensitive subject and governors need to keep a fine balance between respecting the professional’s knowledge and integrity whilst providing the challenge that OFSTED are looking for.
