This selection of Graham’s delicate watercolours has been produced over a number of years. Graham’s preferred subjects are trees in the landscape and boats – from which he has produced two books: ‘Trees in Watercolour’ and ‘Boats in Watercolour’. Both are available to purchase at the Gallery.
Graham specialised in silversmithing at school before embarking on Industrial Design at Birmingham College of Art. After working in Product Design and as a Development Engineer for many years, Graham retired in 2000. He now devotes more time to his painting as well as attending weekly silversmithing classes at Birmingham City University’s Jewellery School. Drawings are a key element in Graham’s work and he produces most of his paintings from sketches he makes ‘on the spot’ in the open air. He then works these up into finished watercolour paintings in his studio. On occasion, Graham will use photographs to support his initial sketches. An accomplished and confident watercolourist, Graham also has extensive teaching experience.
