Grant Sharkey: 4/40 launch night
Event Information
Description
GRANT SHARKEY'S 20 YEAR MISSION ...TO RELEASE AN ALBUM EVERY 6 MONTHS FOR THE NEXT 20 YEARS. This is number 4 of 40
Grant explains:
"The mission started in a traffic jam in London. Traffic jams always make me a little more philosophical than usual, I was dehydrated, I was being sold something everywhere I looked by companies that didn't give a shit about the fact I needed a drink of water, my fellow drivers could barely find the courage to look at me and recognise our reality.
In my delirium, I ended up asking myself FOUR QUESTIONS:
1) Is the world I live in working?
I answered, NO.
2) How old will I be in the year 2033?
I answered, 55. Still viable.
3) Is life in 2033 going to be better than it is in 2013 for the regular people in the world?
I answered, No...I don't think so.
4) Would you like to be stuck in a traffic jam with a teenager in 2033?
I initially answered, NO WAY! But then I realised this was a trick question. I should be answering, YES! Because I'd like to think I'd be able to make a difference with songs and philosophy and jokes to make a better society for them to grow up in.
So, I set myself the mission. 1 man. 20 years. 40 albums."
Join him for the launch - entry by donation, suggested around £5 or whatever you can afford.
Timings:-
Doors open at 7.30pm, the performance starts 8pm and will be finished by 10.30pm latest. Please note that, although we attempt to always start on time, performances here are innovative and challenging to set up and may start slightly later than the advertised start time. Our cafe is open beforehand so that you can enjoy a drink, light supper or snack if you arrive early.
Accessibility info:-
The event is suitable for adults, young people and older children - children must be accompanied by an adult at all times. Young children are also welcome to come along but be aware some poems may contain adult content (although we try to keep these until after children have left!).
The event is held on our first floor, which is accessible by a wide staircase with a sturdy banner, and seating is provided. We regret that, due to space and other constraints, we are unable to relocate this particular event to the ground floor for those who require level access - so sorry.
Travel information:-
We are a city centre venue and parking can be in short supply. If you are driving, please make sure you leave plenty of time to find a space click here for a map of where the nearest parking spaces can be found.
We are about 10 minutes walk from Southampton City Centre train station and on the route for most city centre buses.
