Event description

Please note times differ from originally published in our brochure due to circumstances beyond our control.

We will look at ways in which artists and graphic novelists have used the visual diary as a place in which to try out ideas and explore identity. Working in sketchbooks or diaries using drawing, writing and mixed media we will mine our own experiences for inspiration. You will be guided by experienced artist/diarist and educator Ottilie through tasks towards developing a visual language with which to recall and recreate moments, people and places in your life, bringing them together into your own unique book of you. Drawing materials including diaries/sketchbooks will be provided.

Her own practice includes etching and creating comics about her every day life, as well as making tiny editions of book-works. She exhibits regularly and is currently working on a graphic novel.

About Phoenix Brighton Arts Courses

Phoenix Brighton’s arts courses provide a unique mix of high quality workshops aimed at practicing and aspiring artists and art lovers at all levels. They are suitable for anyone (from beginners upwards unless otherwise stated) who wants to learn new skills from professional artists and would like to meet likeminded people in a supportive and creative environment. We normally provide all the basic materials unless stated in the course descriptions. You need to register in advance as some popular courses fill up very quickly.

All courses are aimed at adults (over 18) unless otherwise stated. Course fees are kept as low as possible to encourage everyone to participate in the arts, including those on low incomes but not eligible for benefits, such as many artists. Therefore we do not offer separate concessionary rates for members of the public. We are unable to offer discounted rates for other reasons, for instance if you are unable to attend all the sessions, unless the course has already started and has unfilled spaces.

How To Pay

We accept payment online by PayPal, credit or debit card (as a guest without starting a PayPal account) and offline via cheque (choose the 'show other payment options' under the 'PayPal Checkout' button for this option). Cheques must be payable to "Phoenix Brighton" and sent with full contact details and the name of the course you are booking to: The Artistic Learning Co-ordinator, Phoenix Brighton, 10-14 Waterloo Place, Brighton, BN2 9NB. We regret we do not have the facility to take card payments over the telephone or in person. To pay by card click 'order now' and choose the second option (underneath the pay by PayPal option).

Phoenix Brighton members receive a 15% discount. Email to receive the necessary booking code, it is not available in the Phoenix Office from other staff members.

We regret we are unable to provide car or bicycle parking facilities (except for participants with disabilities).

If you have any special needs please let us know and we will endeavour to accomodate them.
