Grassland Plant Identification
Thu 29 June 2017, 10:00 – 17:00 BST
This course is aimed at beginners and those with some limited plant identification skills, who are keen to improve their botanical identification skills for grassland plants, whatever their reasons. The ability to have a certain minimum level of plant identification skills is essential for most ecological work, from Phase 1 habitat surveys through to habitat and species management work. If you can’t identify a plant, how can you conserve it or enthuse others about it? The course will provide participants with the confidence to use field guide books, to recognise different plant families, where to go to get more help, and how to build upon the knowledge gained in the course. All plant groups will be covered during the day but the course is flexible to the needs of its participants.
Venue - Mortonhall & nearby field visit. - We will begin with a 1hr classroom session at the TCV office in Mortonhall, we will then visit a suitable local grassland site, participants will need to use their own vehicles for the field visit although we would encourage you to car share with the other participants. We will return to Mortonhall at approximately 4pm for another 1hr classroom session and discussion.
