Join the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust (SBT) for a free online monthly Research Conversation. Taking place on Zoom on the second Wednesday of every month, the SBT's Research Conversations provide you with the opportunity to listen to people who are engaged in research, some of whom are working on the SBT’s own Collections.

Drawing on new research spanning fifty states, there are now known to be 365 performing organisations specialising in the work of Shakespeare in the U.S.A. Approximately one-third of these are amateur performance organisations, producing ‘grassroots Shakespeare.’

This compelling project reveals shared attributes among these groups, including a collective sense of responsibility and a commitment to social inclusivity, and in some cases, social activism. This presentation, led by William Wolfgang, PhD Candidate at the University of Warwick, will contextualise the prevalence of the grassroots Shakespeare phenomenon and describe the impact on the participants and communities these organisations serve.
