About this event

This illustrated talk by Paul Jennings looks at Victorian attitudes towards death, from the pauper's grave to the elaborate funerals of the better off, and at the development of cemeteries with their fascinatingly varied monuments, to the origins of the movement for cremation.

GRAVE MATTERS: A look at the fascinating history and symbolism of death and burial. Join Paul Jennings for 3 talks that take us from the Victorian period to the present, focusing on Victorian attitudes to death, Undercliffe Cemetery in Bradford, which has some Harrogate Connections, and Grove Road Cemetery in Harrogate. All available to book on Eventbrite. Each is a standalone talk so enjoy 1,2 or 3 as you wish.

This talk is a free event. There will be time for questions at the end. Tea, coffee and hot chocolate also available for £1.50
