The RIBA award-winning Drawing Studio is reportedly the first dedicated drawing studio to be built in a British art school for a century. It is also Professor Sir Peter Cook’s first UK building. At this exclusive talk, tour and workshop event, you will hear directly from project architect Jenna Al-Ali about the design process, and Vice Chancellor Stuart Bartholomew will also discuss the build process from the client’s perspective.
The jury described the building as ‘squat Buddah, ethereal and likeable’ and one which ‘fits its purpose perfectly; a space for drawing that invites you to draw’.
We’ll begin with a complimentary lunch and refreshments before the illustrated talk from Jenna Al-Ali and Stuart Bartholomew after which attendees will be given free reign of the studio itself. During the afternoon, you will get a chance to draw the interior, or exterior of the studio – or take time to work on another drawing project in the studio itself.
Some basic drawing materials and easels will be provided, but please bring your own equipment with you.
The timetable is as follows:
1.00 – 1.30pm: Lunch
1.30 – 2.30pm: Talk
2.30 – 4.00pm: Drawing workshop
If you have any dietary requirements, please confirm these when you book. If you will be driving to this event, please indicate this when you book also, as we are required to inform the university of likely demand.
