Join us for an exclusive opportunity to hear more about this RIBA East Award winning building from the architect who designed it.
As part of this series of events showcasing 2016's Award winners, the Hertfordshire Association of Architects will host a talk and tour of the new QEII Hospital in Welwyn Garden City given by Peter Liddell of Penoyre & Prasad.
This Penoyre & Prasad designed building has an open and well-lit interior which stands in stark contrast to most similar facilities. If architecture can stimulate health and wellbeing, then this building will go a considerable distance to help its patients.
Internally the project has mastered the technical requirements of providing a complex set of uses clearly and with great skill. The attention to detail in terms of the use of colour and signage should serve as an example to all new similar facilities. The project has high sustainability aspirations with an ethos that runs throughout, from the initial layout through to the adaptability of the hospital in future years.
‘’The skill of the architect in incorporating the technical requirements in a way that makes the building as stress free as possible is a fabulous achievement.’’ RIBA Award jury
Please note that the New QEII features a pay-on-exit car park. The pay point is situated next to the main hospital entrance. Please come prepared as the pay point currently only accepts cash (card payments will be available shortly).
