Join the Great Debaters Club and De Beauvoir Block for a public debate on the police use of facial recognition technology. An opportunity to learn how to make a persuasive argument, as well as to make your own voice heard, the event will be led by a panel of trained debaters and chaired by the Director and lead trainer of the Great Debaters Club, Tony Koutsoumbos, who will deliver an evaluation of the arguments presented.

About the debate

This event seeks to create a space for the companies and entrepreneurs that have made London the tech startup capital of Europe to discuss the ethical implications of their ground-breaking work. The controversy that currently surrounds the police use of Facial Recognition Technology in public spaces - banned in San Franciso and the subject of a court case in the UK - is a prime example of why having these discussions matters.

The panel will be divided into two teams of speakers who will debate the following motion: 'The use of facial recognition technology to police public spaces should be banned'. One of the teams will argue in favour of the motion and the other will argue against. After they have presented their arguments, the audience will be given the opportunity to question both sides and share their own thoughts on the motion.
