Tea-Time Zoom Talks – Great English Architects Series With Nicholas Merchant.

Jeffry Wyatt (1766-1840).

Wednesday 12th November at 4pm.

Many BADA Friends will have enjoyed the informative and entertaining talks given by BADA Friends’ Northern Representative Nicholas Merchant and I am delighted he has put together this special series of three talks on English architects.

We begin with Jeffrey Wyatt who was the nephew of classical architect James Wyatt and came from a distinguished family of architects. He came to prominence when he won a prestigious competition to re-model and extent Windsor Castle, beating other leading names of the day including John Nash and John Soane, and so began his long association with George IV.

Wyatt lived at Windsor as the works progressed and in fact never left there being granted the honour of being buried in St George’s Chapel, Windsor. He was so respected by George IV that he was allowed to change his name to Wyatville when he became Sir Jeffry.

However, it was not just Windsor that he worked on. Other great stately homes also feature in his life including Belton and Chatsworth, to mention just two but the list is long. Come and learn more about this fascinating man on this winter’s afternoon all in the comfort of your own home.
