Description

Join us in celebrating the English-language debut of one of the brightest young stars in world literature.

Valeria Luiselli is an award winning Mexican author whose fiction and non-fiction work has appeared in The New York Times, Granta, McSweeney’s and The New Yorker. Her novels include the much lauded Story of my Teeth and Faces in the Crowd.

In 2017 Luiselli published Tell Me How It Ends a deeply humane repost the America First mentality, a stunning collection of essays on the US border with Mexico and the undocumented Latin American children facing deportation. She now returns to the subject in fiction with the urgent and phenomenally powerful Lost Children Archive.

The Lost Children Archive is a daring, breathtaking novel about what it is to be human in an unhuman world; it intertwines two journeys – a family roadtrip from New York to Apacheria and the thousands of children journeying north, travelling to the US border from Central America and Mexico.

Don't miss this unqiue opportunity to hear from a supremely talented novelist and one of the most compassionate and cogent commentators on borders and migration. If that weren't enough, our host for the evening is the fantastic Laia Jufresa.

A novelist of a rare vitality’ - Ali Smith

Valeria Luiselli’s first novel in English is one of the best novels I’ve read in recent years, and one of the most important. She floods extraordinary light onto childhood, parenthood, the literary consciousness, and how we make sense of past and present pain. It is a gorgeous and vital ghost-rich soundscape, and one of the most brilliant portrayals of child-parent relationships I have ever read’ -Max Porter, author of Grief is the Thing with Feathers

‘Impossibly smart, full of beauty, heart, and insight, Lost Children Archive is also highly readable and important. It is the perfect American road trip novel for right now. Everyone should read this book’ - Tommy Orange, author of There, There
