Great Fire
Overview
You probably remember being taught about The Great Fire at school…Pudding Lane, a bakery, St Paul’s. But this walk aims to bring to life how the disaster unfolded, how people reacted, how the authorities responded: and as we recover from our current national calamity, to explore some striking parallels about how leaders react and promote their actions and policies.
You will also learn that Samuel Pepys put his cheese in a safe place a day before saving his wife: and that Sir Christopher Wren was arguably an even better courtier and self-publicist than he was architect?
A walking tour for those interested in discovering the history, sites and buildings of the City of London: ideal for a day out, a birthday or other event with family and friends.
