Description

Pupils who use English as an Additional Language (EAL) benefit from activities which scaffold language as well as scaffolding learning. This practical webinar will consider how substitution tables can be used by both primary and secondary practitioners within an integrated classroom to scaffold the language needed for curriculum learning. The webinar will explore different types of substitution tables and consider the ways in which they can be adapted to meet the needs of all pupils who use EAL, from those who are new to English to more fluent users.

Biography:

Emily Curran joined The Bell Foundation as a trainer in September 2018. Prior to joining The Bell Foundation, Emily worked in English Language Teaching (ELT) and taught both adults and young learners in the UK and Thailand respectively, before going on to become a teacher trainer in the ELT sector. Emily has a CELTA and DELTA and has also worked closely with Cambridge Refugee Resettlement Campaign (CRRC) as a liaison for the English Language Provision. 

Kamil Trzebiatowski joined The Bell Foundation in September 2018 and holds the post of Digital Resource Developer. Prior to joining the Foundation, Kamil spent 18 years teaching English as a Foreign Language and English as an Additional Language (Poland, England and Scotland) in mainstream secondary classrooms. He was an EAL co-ordinator at a secondary school as well as an EAL consultant/trainer (2014-2018). Kamil holds an MA in Corpus Linguistics and an MEd in Inclusive Education.

We recommend that you access the session at 3.45pm on Thursday 28 November 2019 as the technical team will be available to assist if you have any questions.

When you receive the webinar URL please check that it takes you to the event room, if not, please email info@bell-foundation.org.uk. Please note that you will not be able to log in to the webinar event room in advance i.e. before 3.45pm on Thursday 28 November. Please check your ‘junk’ folder if you have not received this information 24 hours before the event.

We are aware that some participants are unable to attend the webinar on the day and as a result we over-issue tickets to ensure the session is full. Through our experience of hosting webinars we have calculated the likely drop out rate in order to have a full event, however, we do not want to disappoint people. Therefore, to be as fair as possible we admit ticket holders on a first come first served basis on the day. We will be most grateful if you would cancel your ticket if you know you will not be able to attend.
