"Great Minds Often Think Differently: Lessons learned from the Barnsley BIS Community Learning Mental Health pilot: What difference does a learning in a residential setting make a difference?"

by Caroline Lees, Mental Health Co-ordinator, The Northern College

From Friday 25th - Sunday 27th September 2015, in the beautiful setting of Northern College, the Barnsley Community Learning Mental Health pilot, 'Great Minds Often Think Differently'. offered a 'Wellbeing Retreat'. This was followed up by a day session on Saturday 10 October - World Mental Health Day 2015.

The 'retreat' was designed to use learning to help people experiencing mild-moderate mental health difficulties develop strategies to manage their mental health and wellbeing. Residential and non-residential places were offered. Food, refreshments and accommodation for children and childcare were all part of the package. The Retreat included condition management, chill out therapy sessions, various workshops and evening entertainment.

In this session Caroline will reflect on the experience, using feedback from learners and delivery partner organisations to illiustrate the lessons they have all learned.
