About this Event

Join Our Movement Become a Race Equality Change Agent Today

We look forward to welcoming leaders and staff from across all public sector organisations, higher education and third sector to join us for the launch of the Greater Manchester Race Equality Change Agents Programme (RECAP).

The day will also form part of the welcome for Cohort one of RECAP, with 30 successful applicants coming together to meet each other and network with colleagues and leaders from across the region.

We have planned a day involving a mix of lived experience panels, social movement building and hearing from a variety of leading voices on equality and enabling change from across the NHS, Fire Service, Police and Local Authorities from both GM and much further afield.

The day will begin with Raj Jain who is the Chief Executive of the Northern Care Alliance NHS Group (NCA) and the Executive lead for the Greater Manchester Public Sector Race Equality Transformation Contract the NCA have been commissioned to deliver. He will set out the journey we hope to go on together as we grow one of the biggest social movements anywhere in the UK dedicated to ensuring reducing racial inequalities in our public and third sector workforce is more than a just a pledge but it is made a reality through our actions hard work and the support of organisations both big and small right across the region. We have a proud history of supporting civil rights movements as a region from leading the charge for women's right to vote, to Britain's first black professor and even our countries first Black Professional Footballer so its time for Greater Manchester to do it again and show that its time Racial inequalities in the workplace were made history.

The day will continue with experiences from successful graduates of the NHS Workforce Race Equality Experts Programme which helped inspire our RECAP initiative, where attendees will hear examples of best practice been rolled out to reduce racial inequalities from NHS organisations across the country.

We will move on to a section on building successful social movements for change from workplace rebels and pirates to civil rights and politics how do we turn rhetoric and promises into action because actions always speak louder than words. You will hear from a leading voice in this field as well as helping contribute to our own RECAP revolution through the actions we will take during the day.....

The day hasn't stopped yet and attendees should look forward to a show case some of the best practice led by colleagues from the police, fire and local authorities sourced from across the country on how to enable change to reduce inequalities experienced by BAME colleagues.

We will close the day with an opportunity to hear from our successful RECAP applicants on their projects and hopes for making a difference over the next 12 months.

Registration will be from 9-9.30am in the Franklin Rifkin Lecture Theatre in the Mayo Building of Salford Royal Hospital and the day will include refreshments, lunch and entertainment as part of our Black History Month Celebrations.
