Greek Modern (Level 4):

Wednesday 18:00 - 20:00 for 10 weeks

This course will take place every Wednesday for 10 weeks. Class will begin at 6.00pm and end at 8.00pm.

Class Dates: Wednesday 17, 24, 31 January; 7, 14, 21, 28 February; 7, 14, 21 March 2018

Learning Objectives:

Students enrolling on this course should have completed Greek (Modern) Level 3 or already have a substantial knowledge of the Greek Language. The aim of the course is mainly the further development and use of the Greek Language –practicing vocabulary or syntactical and grammatical linguistic rules- to enable students to communicate more fluently in the Greek language in realistic everyday situations. The emphasis will be on oral communication.

Potential Topics:

Potential topics will include: Life in Greece; Family relationships; Education, Employment and Work; Entertainment and Leisure Activities; Aspects of Greek History and Culture; Travelling. The Course will be student –centred allowing students to develop at their own pace and according to their interests with the help of the practising tutor-led classes.

Learning outcomes:

The aim of the course is mainly the further development and use of the Greek Language –practicing vocabulary or syntactical and grammatical linguistic rules- to enable students to communicate more fluently in the Greek language in realistic everyday situations. The emphasis will be on oral communication. Students will develop Vocabulary and Grammar in a post-beginners’ level – going up to intermediate level.



Please note: In order to receive a certificate of completion, you must attend a minimum of 7 out of 10 classes.

What are the course fees?

There are different fees depending on registration type. All course fees are payable on enrolment.

Are these courses accredited?

A Queen's Certificate will be awarded to all students who attend regularly. A minimum of 70% attendance is required for certification. Note QUB Students, all Language classes (Languages for Non-Specialist courses) now count towards the University's Degree Plus Award (Route B). Degree Plus Award is a new award for Queen’s students designed to provide official recognition of extra-curricular activities including Language Centre language courses which are open to all students whatever their degree subject. Employers are looking for graduates who can demonstrate that they have the skills needed for workplace success – the Degree Plus Award will help you do this!

How often do I attend?

Classes, which usually last two hours, are held weekly, as far as possible outside normal university teaching hours (e.g. late afternoon, early evening, some are scheduled for Wednesday afternoon) and run for 10 weeks starting in October and again in February.

Is my registration fee transferrable?

Yes, if you feel after your first class that the level of language is too high/low, you can transfer to another class, provided that there is available space.

What's the refund policy?

All refunds must be requested in writing and accompanied by your payment receipt before the start of the course. For all registered students, refunds are not normally paid after the beginning of classes. Any such request must be made in writing to the Language Centre Manager and must be related to reasons beyond your control and supported by written evidence. These refunds will be at the Language Centre Manager’s discretion. All refunds, where agreed, will be subject to an administrative fee of £10.00 for QUB staff and students and £40 for members of the public.
