Dr Charles Goode has recently published a book on the relationship between the Green Belt, housing crisis and planning systems more broadly. With the Government's commitment to build 1.5 million new homes over the current Parliament, changes to policy with 'grey belt' announcements and proposals to revive strategic planning, the book's publication could not be more timely.
On Tuesday 16th September, Charles will be formally launching the book and reflecting on Green Belt reform within the context of a deepening housing crisis. There will then be an expert panel discussion and debate on the future of Green Belt and current policy changes including:
- Mike Best of Best Laid Planning and, until recently, Senior Director of Turley, will provide a private sector perspective.
- Catriona Riddell of Catriona Riddell Associates and leading strategic planner will offer a public sector perspective with a focus on the revival of strategic planning.
- James Corbet Burcher, Barrister at No. 5 Chambers and leading expert on Green Belt will give a legal perspective.
The event will be held at the wonderful Birmingham and Midland Institute in Birmingham City Centre. There will be refreshments and networking from 5 with the talk starting at 5:30 with further networking and refreshments afterwards. The event is free to attend and the book is available via the publisher's (Routledge) website: https://www.routledge.com/The-Green-Belt-Housing-Crises-and-Planning-Systems/Goode/p/book/9781032674278?srsltid=AfmBOoqyoytah4XjkHtvXq1aPc9CySt8hSCYjdL1ywCmLGrARfOqmNf
