In this session you will:

- Learn how to keep your plants healthy and growing

- Experience starting salad plants from seed

- Replant salad seedlings in a container to grow on and crop

- Recognise when plants are not happy

- Learn how to minimise damage by pests organically

- Leave with a container planted with several types of salad leaf, and with a tray planted with more salad seeds, to replace plants in the container later in the summer.

Make are hosting two different Green Fingers workshops designed to enthuse you and get you going: Keeping Houseplants Alive and Thriving , and this workshop: growing Edible Greens on your Balcony or Backyard. Each workshop is self contained so you can attend one, or both.

The workshops are informal with plenty of tea, coffee, biscuits and chatting.

The sessions will be hands-on, working on plants with guidance from the workshop organisers and other participants.

The Green fingers workshops are led by Terry, an experienced teacher and market gardener, and John, who established the Hamilton community garden project.

The workshops will be held in the community gardens of Make Hamilton, giving participants a chance to see behind the scenes.

At the end of each workshop you will leave with the plants you have worked on, and bags of confidence to have a go at more green fingered projects.

Getting stuck in with a practical approach and lots of hands on activities will give you the confidence to go home and care for your plants whether they're houseplants or a wild garden jungle!

FAQs:

Do I need any experience prior to the class?

No prior experience is necessary, all health and safety will be taught by our experienced technician.

Are there ID or minimum age requirements to enter the event?

Any child under 18 must be accompanied by an adult, this particular class is not suitable for individuals under 16. We run a no under 15 policy.

What are my transportation/parking options for getting to and from the event?

On street parking is available. Public transport links are very nearby, and the venue is easily accessible on foot from Hamilton Square train station.

How accessible is the venue?

The workshop is located on ground floor which provides full accessibility to the premises including toilet provisions. We would advise wheelchair users to contact the workshop provider on the sale of the ticket to arrange a parking bay.

Where can I contact the organiser with any questions?

Feel free to get in touch on 0151 601 8665 or email hello@makecic.org

Is my registration/ticket transferrable?

If you find that you cannot attend then you are welcome to pass your place on to a friend who may find it useful. Please let the organiser know if you need to do this.

Alternatively tickets can be transferred to a future event up to 14 days before the event.

Do I have to bring my printed ticket to the event?

No, a register will be taken at the workshop, it isn't necessary to print your ticket.

What is the refund/cancellation policy?

Refunds will be offered in the event of the class being cancelled - in this instance we will give as much notice as possible, usually at least 5 days, and offer alternative dates if appropriate.

This class does have a minimum requirement of ticket sales to proceed, so there is a possibility of it being cancelled, but we will contact you five days before if this is the case.

If for any reason you find you are unable to attend then please get in touch and a refund can be offered up to 7 days before the workshop.

This is because we pay our practitioners fair wages for their work- giving refunds on last minute cancellations would mean that practitioners would not be paid for the preparation they have put into their classes.

*Refunds will be given minus Eventbrite fees, unless Make CIC cancel the class, in which case a full refund will be given*

The name on the registration/ticket doesn't match the attendee. Is that okay?

Please bring along a print out of your ticket if the registration does not match the attendee, or contact hello@makecic.org to have them change the ticket so it contains your name.

What can I bring into the event?

There will be a short break during the session with the opportunity for snacks and coffee! Please bring along lunch/snacks if you would prefer not to buy it. All materials will be provided for the class.

What should I wear?

Wear clothes that you are comfortable in that you would do some gardening in.

I have symptoms of COVID-19 or have been told to self isolate after being in contact with someone with COVID-19 can I get a refund?

We can refund your ticket or transfer your ticket to a future class/workshop if you let us know 7 or more days prior to the class or workshop.

We can refund your ticket up to 5 days before the event if you can provide evidence of a positive test result or instructions to self isolate if we manage to re-sell the ticket. We will do our best to do so, but cannot guarantee a refund.

We cannot refund your ticket in the 5 days prior to the event. You are welcome to pass your ticket on to a friend or family member but please let us know who the new ticket holder is in advance.

This is because we pay our practitioners fair wages for their work- giving refunds on last minute cancellations would mean that practitioners would not be paid for the preparation they have put into their classes.

Do I need to self isolate if someone who was in the same class tests positive for COVID-19?

No. Unless you have had close contact.

According to the government guidelines you only need to self isolate if you have come into “close contact” with someone. The environment we provide is covid secure, meaning that if you follow the rules you will not come into close contact with another participant.

Close contact, as defined by the guidance, is when:

You had face-to-face contact with someone, within one meter, including:

Being coughed on

Having skin-to-skin physical contact, or

Been within one metre for one minute or more

Or, you were within 2 meters of someone for 15 minutes or more

Wearing PPE does not mitigate the above factors.

Someone being behind a screen does not count as close contact.

If someone tests positive they must notify NHS Track and Trace, which will inform other people. Additionally we ask that anyone who tests positive lets us know, so we can keep other people well informed.

The final decision about self-isolating must come from you, and given all the information you will need to make an informed decision yourself.
