Course Content/Objectives

The CPD session is the final of 4 modules of the Green Fingers course. The course aims to introduce practical horticultural knowledge and skills to teachers and other interested school staff.

The fourth module focusses on maximising garden success, by using suitable tools, planning ahead for seasons, and growing the right plant in appropriate places. 

Example lesson plans will be provided to help teachers incorporate this knowledge into their own teaching, helping to meet outcomes across the CfE, particularly across the Biodiversity and Interdependence theme.

 

Outcomes sought

 Completion of this session will enable  participants to:

  • Recognize good gardening tools and which tool for which job
  • To understand a gardeners seasonal calendar allows for seasonal planning
  • To recognize basic pest and disease, learning what to look for
  • To have a basic understanding of the properties of soil, compost and pH
  • To understand the adage “right plant, right place” in the larger scheme of garden design and aspect.
