As part of Green Impact, Towering Infernos (Green Impact Estates team) have decided to run wellbeing events during April that are funded by Green Impact scheme to continue the amazing work everyone who has taken part in Green Impact has contributed to the University.
Challenge yourself on a smoothie bike in Tower Mezzanine floor above the main reception (donations for smoothies are optional with any money raised going to Bowel Cancer UK, join the Mindfulness session, bowel cancer awareness talk, or maybe get a free massage and then learn how to recognise and effectively manage negative pressure in the popular 'face of stress' talk in T1-20, as well as visiting various health and wellbeing information stands at the Junction!
A full day of activities to help raise awareness about bowel cancer.
These events are available to London Metropolitan students and staff only.

Smoothie Bikes (all day no ticket required):
Come and take part in the smoothie bike challenge. Compete against your friends and colleagues for your top spot on the leader board. Throughout the day you will have the chance to peddle up a smoothie and be in with the chance of winning a Green Impact winners hamper made up from free trade ingredients. Smoothie Bikes are open to all, so come and take part!
There is no charge for getting a smoothie, but we'd really appreciate any loose change you have as a small donation to Bowel Cancer UK, but no worries if not, just come along and have fun!
Bowel Cancer UK Information Stand (all day no ticket required): Mezzanine above Tower Reception
This month is Bowel Cancer awareness month and all money raised from our Towering Infernos Green Impact team events will go towards helping BCUK in their mission to improve research and to educate people across the UK about the signs and symptoms of Bowel Cancer. The stand will have loads of free information leaflets, as well as some lovely things to buy. Jayne Sutton will also be on hand to answer any questions you might have.
Nutrition Information Stand (all day no ticket required): Mezzanine above Tower Reception
Two of our 4th year dietetics students Georgi and Juliette will be holding an information stand about nutrition. Not only will they be there to offer guidance, they will also be giving out free fruit to those who go and talk to them! There will also be an interactive food display to show you some of the foods which are good for your body.
Free personal trainer taster sessions and free gym access information stand (all day no ticket required): Mezzanine above Tower Reception
Come and meet our personal trainers and register for a free personal training taster session. Sessions will be bookable and be for 15 minutes, free and open to students and staff. Also during May you can bring a friend /colleague from office or student to join in classes and go to the Gym, as part of or commitment to wellbeing.
Head and neck massage (No ticket required): Mezzanine above Tower Reception
Come along to T1-20 for your free head and neck massage session between 12-2pm. Relax and unwind your tired muscles. Sessions will be 15 minutes each.
Mindfulness session (ticketed event time 11:45-12:45):
Come along to T1-20 for your pre-booked free mindfulness session. Learn about mindfulness and how it can benefit you as part of an ongoing wellbeing regime before taking part i a taster mindfulness session. The introduction and session will be a group event for those who have pre-booked. Get your tickets here:
The Face of Stress (ticketed event time 15:00-16:00):
Have you ever wondered what is ‘normal’ when it comes to your own metal health? Have you questioned whether you could have handled a high pressure situation differently? How do recognise when things are getting beyond your ‘control’?
In a candid and enlightening talk, Jayne Sutton reveals her own experience with stress, how to recognise signs and causes of stress, and how we can learn to combat the pressures that life can put upon us. Jayne will also share a mixture of proven techniques that can be tried at times to help you reduce and manage stress.
Bowel Cancer UK Awareness Talk (ticketed event time 14:00-15:00):
This talk has been recognised with a prestigious award from the Royal Society of Public Health. Our trained volunteers present the facts about the disease as well as highlighting their own experiences. Our talk covers:
- Signs and symptoms
- Risk factors
- Healthy lifestyle and bowel cancer prevention
- Bowel cancer screening
