Session 1 outline - The energy crisis: How can innovation make energy more sustainable, more secure, and fairer for all?:

This session focuses on energy. The cost of energy in the UK is driving more people into fuel poverty, worsening a cost-of-living crisis, and making operating conditions for business extremely challenging.

We will:

1. Highlight the challenges behind the current cost of energy and the importance of tackling the energy trilemma to make energy more sustainable, more secure, and fairer for all,

2. Introduce the Energy Innovation Agency, explaining how it is working with innovators to help solve the energy trilemma and transition GM to carbon-neutral economy,

3. Hear from an industry speaker about how energy innovation can help solve the energy crisis,

4. Meet an innovative business, supported by the Agency, who will present their solution.

The session will conclude with a summary of key messages and there will also be the opportunity for the audience to take part in an energy questionnaire. Session outcomes will be fed back to GMCA afterwards.

Industry Speaker: Dr Eduardo Alejandro Martinez Cesana from the University of Manchester (Multi-Energy Systems - Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering)

This session will appeal to anyone with a business or who is experiencing issues with the cost of energy.

Session 2 outline - In Conversation with MIDAS: The Deals, The Dos and The Don'ts of Green Finance:

Following the session with the Energy Innovation Agency looking at the ‘Why’ in terms of the innovators who are helping to solve the net-zero issue, MIDAS will host a fireside chat exploring the ‘How’ in terms of how green projects are funded.

The session will look briefly at what Green Finance is and what leading figures from the city-region are doing in greening the existing financial services industry, as well as funding green infrastructure projects. We will be looking broadly at what Green Finance is from a general perspective from a Professional Services & Advisory firm and which green finance initiatives are contributing the most successfully.

We will hear from a local Green Finance SME on their growth story, how they received funding and lessons learned during their journey so far as they offer solutions for businesses and homeowners. We will also be in conversation with a large Banking incumbent on some of the deals that have been done in Greater Manchester, how these contribute the overall net zero goals of the city region and what green suppliers can do to position themselves to access green funding initiatives.

The session will wrap up with some key takeaways for businesses looking for finance & investment and how this supports further development of the 5-year Environmental Plan.

This session will appeal to:

• Green business founders looking for funding.

• GM stakeholders interested to hear how Financial Services representatives are tackling the net zero problem in greening the existing sector.
