Throughout Surrey on 17 & 18 May 2014, inspirational eco home owners are opening their doors to members of the public, to show how they have made their homes cheaper to heat and more comfortable to live in.
This is a fantastic, free opportunity to see energy saving technologies in action and to ask the homeowners those burning questions! What is it like to live in a house with solar panels? How expensive is solid wall insulation? How much money are you really saving?

Mrs Hullah will be opening her house to visitors on to show you what she has done to make her home a super-energy efficient property.
Mrs Hullah has ensured her 1950s brick built, semi detached property with side extensionis energy efficient by installing many energy saving measures.
PVs and Solar thermal units on south facing back of house.
High specification wood fired stove that heats much of the house.
Extension to create a large utility area and garden room with insulated tiled roof to make it much more habitable all year round than the old conservatory. The louvers over the large windows control solar gain/heat loss and the glass has high thermal resistivity for same reason.
Under floor heating and sun pipes in extension.
New condensing boiler.
Cavity wall and loft insulation, low energy light bulbs, shower only and low flush toilet.
New domestic equipment all rated for low energy use.
Behaviour changes – various small scale plus a new diesel car that is zero road tax rated. We drive using max speed 60 and cycle or walk for local journeys.

Homeowners are opening their houses to assist other homeowners learn about renewable technology and making their own homes more energy efficient. They are volunteers and are giving up their time to host this event. By entering their property you do so at your own risk and, although every measure will be taken to minimise risk, they cannot be held responsible for any damage or loss to your person, personal belongs or those who attend with you, nor as a result of offering advice to visitors on what to do in their own homes.
