Desborough Castle was a castle during the Middle Ages. It is west of Rutland Avenue and is worth a visit in the autumn as the woodland has wonderful colours. You will also be able to see the contours of the castle as the undergrowth is dying back.

Transport & Address:

The minibus will be running as usual for anybody who wishes to get a lift from the Lido car park (The Rye, High Wycombe). The bus will leave at 10.00am promptly.

Alternatively meet us on aite at 10.15am. We will meet at the small car park on Spearing Road Service Road (just off Rutland Avenue). Free parking is available in this car park, or on Rutland Avenue. Please park considerately. The nearest postcode is: HP12 3JW.

Please can we ask everyone to arrive on time to ensure you do not miss the health & safety and task briefing. If you are late and the session has already started, you may not be able to join. Thank you.

You don't need to print off your Eventbrite ticket!

The Task:

We will be tackling the ever growing litter crisis and clearing all the rubbish that has been left here over the recent weeks. We will also be clearing the pathways to make the area more accessible and cutting back bramble and branches as necessary. We hope you can join us to help make this site a lovely place to visit.

Timings (please note these timings are approximate):

10.00: Minibus departs from Lido, please don’t be late!

10.15: Arrival on site for safety briefing

11.30: Tea & coffee break

13.00: Minibus arrives back at Lido, work finishes, time to go home!

What to bring:

Please bring your gloves (we will have spares) and dress for the weather and the task.

Long trousers are advisable as there may be ticks and thorny vegetation. We also recommend wearing steel toe capped or sturdy boots rather than trainers.

Wear layers that you can remove if you get hot whilst working. Bring a waterproof as most of our sites have no shelter from the rain.

Please bring plenty of fluids (and a packed lunch if you want to stay all day). We will bring a tea kit and biscuits.

Access:

There are some steep sections in Desborough Castle and tree roots and brambles underfoot. This site may not be suitable for those with limited mobility or who are unsteady on their feet.

Please note:

Biscuits are served at all Chiltern Rangers sessions. Please advise if you have an allergy.

Sometimes there is a need for us to use power tools that can be noisy.
