Description

Our Green Volunteers programme is for young people aged 14-25. It is the ideal programme for anyone completing their Duke of Edinburgh Award at all levels and for young people wanting to learn new skills and explore some of Edinburgh and The Lothian's amazing wild places. Ticket sales close 5 days before each project date.

The sessions all run on a Sunday with the exception of the overnight residentials in March and September.

  • All sessions depart from Tynecastle High School at 9.30am, returning 5pm
  • Transport is provided in The Green Team minibus to and from Tynecastle
  • Participants should bring warm and waterproof clothing, a packed lunch and water
  • Maximum of 12 participants per session

Jan 21st GLENLUDE, INNERLEITHEN.
Create brash hedge enclosures to protect newly planted trees. Toilets on site.

Feb 4th EDDLESTON WATER, NR PEEBLES
Tree planting along the River Tweed to create natural flood barriers.

Feb 25th MUIRAVONSIDE COUNTRY PARK
Learn the art of drystone walling to create and restore field boundaries. Toilets on site.

Mar 11th LINLITHGOW LOCH
Estate work around the loch with a vist to the historic palace. Toilets on site.

March 17-18th GREEN TEAM WILDWOOD RESIDENTIAL
Brash hedging and tree planting to help the regeneration of native trees on this upland site. Accommodation is in the local Village Hall.

Mar 25th PENICUIK ESTATE
Woodland management and footpath work. Find out how the big house burnt down. Toilets on site.

Apr 29th HOPETOUN HOUSE
Clearing and burning rhododendron from the native woodland around this historic country estate. Toilets on site.

May 13th EAST LOTHIAN COAST
Explore the rich and varied coastline and help the East Lothian Rangers tidy up the beaches. Toilets on site.

May 27th PENTLAND HILLS
Help to improve and upgrade the footpaths around the Pentlands.

June 10th CAPIELAW WOODS, MIDLOTHIAN
Clearning and burning of rhododendron to open up the woodland and improve habitats.

Aug 26th PENICUIK ESTATE
Woodland management and footpath work. Toilets on site.

Sept 2nd BLACKNESS CASTLE
Conservation work within the grounds and coastal woodland. Explore the magnificent castle. Toilets on site.

Sept 23rd CAPIELAW WOODS
Clearing and burning rhododendron to open up the woodland and improve habitats

Sept 29-30th BARNSIDE FARM RESIDENTIAL
Hedgerow improvements, tree planting and ragwort pulling on this working organic farm. Take a farm tour and meet the animals. Overnight camping with cooking in the village hall.

Oct 7th BAVELAW MARSH, PENTLAND HILLS
Meadow raking to improve wildlife habitats at this site of international importance.

Oct 28th LORD ANCRUM'S WOOD, NEWBATTLE
Woodland management and invasive species clearance in the historic grounds of Newbattle Abbey.

Nov 4th LEVENHALL LINKS, MUSSELBURGH
Woodland management with the East Lothian Ranger Service at this coastal reserve.

Nov 11th GLENLUDE
Create brash hedge enclosures to protect the newly planted trees from nibbling deer. Toilets on site.

Nov 25th EDDLESTON WATER
Tree planting along the River Tweed to create natural flood barriers.

Dec 2nd WATER OF LEITH
Habitat improvements along the river, followed by Christmas wreath making. Toilets on site.
