Event description

Description

Learn (and share) how ‘Green’ thinking can improve your offer and build strength and resilience across your organisation

Learn from four museums about the greener pathways they are taking and discover what may open up to you with support from MDEM’s Greener Museum programme.

‘Sustainability’ is an umbrella term covering all things that are important to our ongoing survival and well-being, as people and as organisations. To help us to manage the vast array of complex and interconnected issues that come under this umbrella, we commonly separate them into environmental, social or financial issues and often prioritise those relating to financial pressures to keep ‘our heads above water’. This approach can often feel like ‘treading water’ rather than becoming more sustainable or resilient due to urgent financial pressures.

However, all of these issues are interconnected and there are ‘Green’ pathways that not only reduce our environmental footprint and our financial pressures but can help to increase our social footprint and greatly assist in delivering your museum’s core objectives and vision.

In this event, four museums will share how looking at their museum through a green lens is helping to clarify and address deeper organisational sustainability issues and open up new possibilities. The day involves talks from all four museums, interspersed with group discussions, and an expert view and guidance on related issues.

Speakers include:

1) Kristina Lomas – Greener Museums Advisor for MDEM and MDY

2) Chris Hill and Delia Richards – Donington Castle Museum Committee Members

3) Paul Kaye – Operations Manager for Creswell Crags Museum and Visitor Centre

4) Gary Holmes – Facilities Manager for the National Justice Museum, Nottingham

5) Guest case study – The Dales Countryside Museum
