The Reflective Practice Space sessions are an invitation to come together as a community to engage in independent reflection. By joining us on a monthly basis you will create a regular and protected space for you to reflect on your client work.
How do we use the time?
We invite you to join us up to 15 minutes early so that you can familiarise yourself with the templates provided and/or connect and chat with other participants.
These sessions are typically “live” and not recorded. We will start the session with some mindfulness helping us to move into a quieter energy. Participants will then have the choice of working separately in a break out room or remaining in the main room while reflecting independently, typically c.30 minutes. Shortly before closing there will be a pairs exercise where you are invited to share any insights that have emerged. Gathering a few words from everyone we will create a "wordle" that will provide us all with an aide memoire of the session.
What will I reflect upon?
The intention is for participants to reflect on their client work - however, in truth, it is an opportunity for you to process whatever you need to process.
How will this help me reflect?
We hope the events will provide a regular rhythm and protected space in which reflection can occur. As part of the joining instructions, you will receive some ideas, templates, or exercises to help build your repertoire of reflective approaches. The session will open 15 minutes early so that you can familiarise yourself with these documents and prepare. It is important to note that while some of these exercises will involve writing, our intention is to expand the "how" of reflective practice. We will be encouraging reflection using one of 7 types of prompt – visual, auditory, writing, kinaesthetic, poetry, spiritual and AI.
Changes to the sessions for 2025:
In previous years we have released five reflective prompts every month, each from a different processing preference. However, while there will continue to be a number of prompts to choose from, starting February 2025, each month will be themed. Here’s the running order:
· January – recorded webinar “Four Blueprints for Growth”
· February - Poetry
· March - Kinaesthetic
· April - Cognitive
· May - Visual
· June - Auditory
· July - Spiritual
· August – no LIVE session, previous attendees invited catch up with untested prompts
· September - Artificial Intelligence
· October - miscellanous; various new prompts that missed themed session
· November - miscellanous; catch up with untested prompts
This themed approach reflects our request for participants to help us “road test” prompts that could ultimately be included in a second edition of Creating the Reflective Habit. During the session, we will launch a poll to find out which prompt you found most useful. After the session, we will ask participants to complete a short online survey to find out what you tried and what you liked.
Who is this for?
Any helping practitioner with any level of experience who wants to ensure they develop, embed or deepen their reflective practice.
How will I benefit?
- An external prompt to engage in regular reflection
- Extending your toolbox of reflective approaches
- Opportunities for building relationships with our wider community
- Over time, greater clarity on your reflection preferences
