Greenhill Park Hedge Planting/Mulching Days - Sat 22nd Jan / Sat 29th Jan
Event Information
About this event
To help improve the biodiversity of the park and create a natural boundary our Community Forestry team are planting a new nature-friendly hedge at Greenhill Park, in Low Edges. We'll also be adding woodchip (mulching) after planting to help the trees get established.
We're hosting some public hedge-planting sessions this winter and you're invited to join us!* We'll also be adding woodchip (mulching) after planting to help the trees get established.
Where to meet: Gresley Road Park Entrance, Low Edges S8 7LN
What to expect on the day:
Wrap up warm, as it could get chilly! Wear whatever suitable outdoor shoes you have, preferably weatherproof.
You can join in for the whole session or just come along for a short time.
We will:
- supply the tools and protective gloves
- give some planting/mulching guidance
- be on hand to answer any questions you have.
Suitable for tree planting beginners or experienced planters - all welcome!
To make sure we have enough tools for everyone, please book a free place by clicking the buttons on the next pages. Booking not essential but recommended!
Refreshments will be kindly provided by Kids Plant Trees who are supporting these sessions.
These events are also kindly supported by the Friends of Greenhill Park and local environmental group Greener Greenhill.
Covid-19 notice: We'll be asking people to maintain a 2m distance wherever possible during these sessions (wearing a mask will be optional).
* If it's raining heavily, or there's frozen ground or snow on the planting days, we'll postpone planting until another day. If this happens and you've booked a place on Eventbrite, we'll send you an email to update you.
The trees we'll be planting will be bare root whips (small stems) from a mixed variety of native hedge species including Hawthorn, Alder buckthorn and Hornbeam.
The pink line on the map below shows where we'll be planting over the course of the planting days.
