Mendelssohn: Double Concerto for Violin and Piano
Mozart: Quartet in G major k. 80 (arr. string orchestra)
Mendelssohn: String Symphony No. 10
Tanya Sweiry - lead violinist of the PCOL - directs this concert from her violin. The programme features two of the great musical prodigies; Mozart and Mendelssohn.
Mendelssohn wrote his Double Concerto and String Symphony No. 10 when he was just fourteen years old. Despite his age, these works display maturity both in the development of ideas and sense of structure, the Double concerto being a substantial work. Mozart - also at the age of fourteen - famously wrote down Allegri’s Miserere from memory as well as composing his handsome Quartet in G Major, performed tonight by our string orchestra.
Tanya Sweiry has been leader of the Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of London since its inaugural concert in 2013. As well as her work with the PCOL, she has an international career working with orchestras such as the London Sinfonietta, Academy of St Martin in the Fields, and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
Evgeny Samoyloff is a highly acclaimed Russian pianist. Having won numerous international competitions he has performed with the Lithuanian National Symphony Orchestra, Prague Spring Festival, Geneva's Festival d'Eté, and has been broadcast on European radio and TV stations including BBC Radio 3.

When & Where
Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of London Ltd.
The Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra of London was founded in 2013 to provide London's leading young professional musicians with the forum to develop a new voice. PCOL musicians regularly perform with all the prevailing London orchestras as well as many throughout the UK. This musical freshness and quality - along wth our unique artistic approach - has gained us a reputation for quality and innovation. In March 2017 the PCOL had their debut recording released on the major American label Centaur Classics.
Following many concerts in London's Cadogan Hall during 2013-15, the PCOL now presents most of their concerts in the form of Greenwich Mozart Festival held each summer in the beautiful and intimate setting St Alfege Church in Greenwich, London.
