About this event
SOUND/IMAGE Festival brings to Greenwich international artists and newly commissioned works to explore the interplay of sound and light via workshops, installations and exhibitions.

Universal Crepitation Exhibition, 10 November - 18 December, Stephen Lawrence Gallery, Stockwell Street
Exhibition of audio-visual works, spanning a wide range of practices, including theatre, video, dance, music and installation art, that explore sound as a granular ever-present entity. Suitable for all ages.

Sound & Image / Sonos Localia Exhibition, 10– 18 December, Stockwell Street Project Space, Greenwich
Sound/image works and installations emerging from research and learning at the University of Greenwich and associated with the recent Routledge Publication, 'Sound and Image: Aesthetics and Practice' Andrew Knight-Hill (ed) and new releases from the Sonos Localia label.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT YOUR VISIT
Due to COVID 19 you are requested to wear a mask for your visit (unless you have a waiver), make use of the hand sanitiser provided, and to observe social distancing measures while you are in the gallery.
We are operating a policy of limiting visitor numbers to a maximum of 6 per hour. It is therefore advisable for you to book in advance for your visit. Each slot is 45 minutes starting on the hour. If you arrive without a booking we will only be able to grant you entry where there is a free slot. In this case, you will also be required to leave contact details for tracing purposes.
The gallery is fully wheelchair accessible. Public toilet facilities are available, including RADAR key operated disabled toilet facilities, on application to the gallery assistant. For any additional access requirements or enquiries, please contact the gallery at ugg@gre.ac.uk.

Greenwich Sounds - "How to Make a Soundwalk Using a Smartphone" - Museum of Walking, Saturday 14 November, 11.00 (90 mins), online via Zoom
Launching a 14-day challenge for local residents and festival participants, the Museum of Walking (Andrew Stuck & Marcin Barski) host an online workshop "How to make a (geo-located) sound walk and record sounds using a smartphone". Participants will learn how to record and map the sounds of Greenwich borough, creating their very own listening experience & sharing the diverse soundscapes of the community.

Introducing ‘A Proposal for Radical Hospitality’, Friday 20 November, 5.30pm, online via Zoom
Royal Museums Greenwich National Outreach Curator, Matilda Pye and Sound Artist Peter Adjaye talk about the commissioning and making of a new sound-work currently on exhibition at the Queens House.
Due to COVID 19 restrictions, this event takes place in front of an invited audience of limited numbers.

School of Noise: Drawing Sounds, Sat 21 November 11:00-12:30 online via Zoom
During this online workshop, Dan from the School of Noise will explore a different way of writing music which everyone can join in with. People taking part can learn what a graphic score is, create their own unique composition and perform it (or ask Dan to try and play it!). The workshop will also discover other ways that musicians and scientists can visualise sound.
Equipment needed: Art materials (Pens, paper, crayons etc.)
Suitable for ages 7+.
Following the government lockdown it will not be possible to hold this workshop ‘in person’.

Audiovisual Installations Exhibition, 10-15 November, Shop Unit 3-3A, Greenwich Market
A contemporary exhibition space hosting newly commissioned and international artists exploring the interplay of sound and light. Suitable for all ages.
WARNING: May have flashing lights.
Following the government lockdown, this exhibition has been reconfigured so that it is possible to view and engage with through the shop windows and online from 10-15 November.

Expanded Artforms Exhibition, 14, 21 & 28 November, Heritage Gallery, Old Royal Naval College, Greenwich
A weekly changing exhibition of works by Digital Arts MA Students from the School of Design. Suitable for all ages.
Following the COVID 19 lockdown, it will no longer be possible to allow visitors to this exhibition. A video of each weeks outcome will be available online which will be activated once the recording has been made.
