Grey Matter by Dinghy Theatre
Fri 5 May 2017, 15:00 – 16:00 BST
Grey Matter re-examines the effects of dementia in a refreshing and youthful devised performance.
With their second production, Dinghy Theatre tracks the degenerative mental disease, based on the true stories of those affected, their family members and dementia carers. This analysis of the progressively crumbling human form is performed through movement and poetry for an energetic and emotional theatrical experience.
In 2016, dementia was the leading cause of death in England and Wales. All of the cast of Grey Matter have some connection with the mental disease, therefore the performance offers an intimate and personal look on the subject matter from various unique viewpoints.
Grey Matter is an entirely devised performance consisting of brand new choreography, compositions and poetry. The narrative follows a dementia sufferer from diagnosis to the point of no return: when simple cognitive functions fail and memory is a thing of the past. The effects of the disease are examined through the eyes of the patient and those closest to them, with brief biological analyses throughout.
