Greyscale: Unique Drawing Workshop with Julia Davis & Lisa Jones
Event Information
Description
Experiment with a variety of unusual mediums and techniques to create contemporary drawings.
This workshop will encourage participants to gain new perspectives on drawing and to experiment with a range of techniques and mediums to stimulate and improve their drawing approach and results. Traditional techniques reinforcing composition, tone and line will be practiced and allied with exploratory methods – erasing, embossing, ripping, staining – to strengthen participants’ drawing precepts and will encourage exploration of new avenues of expression.
The workshop will be separated into two parts:
1) The morning session will focus on making a series of small studies that investigate mark making, materials and experimentation.
2) The afternoon session focuses on the notion of palimpsest…layering, veiling, concealing, masking, revealing and leaving traces.
Participants will take their cue from the morning session of experimental drawing as reference and technique as a starting point to make a single, unique drawing. This single drawing views the everyday ordinary as extraordinary in its depiction.
Drawing Projects UK will provide some basic materials, but please bring along:
