Alan Scott - Director of Public Sector Prisons

Recently appointed, Alan Scott will be discussing his role and ambitions as Director of Public Sector Prisons.

Alan joined the Prison Service in 1983 from Edinburgh University as an Assistant Governor serving initially at HMYOI Wellingborough in Northamptonshire. After serving 5 years there in a number of roles he was posted to HMP Gartree in Leicestershire which at the time was a dispersal prison in charge of D wing. Having served 2 years there he moved to the North West on promotion as Deputy Governor of HMP Haverigg in Cumbria. In 1992 he moved to HMP Preston in Lancashire as Deputy Governor before becoming Governor there in 1996. Alan then Governed HMP Wymott before becoming the Area Manager for the South West with responsibility for the 13 establishments in Gloucestershire, Avon and Somerset, Wiltshire, Dorset and Devon.  In 2010 he returned to the North West taking responsibility for the 13 establishments across Lancashire, Cumbria, Merseyside and Cheshire.  He is the Public Sector Prisons strategic lead for Decency and SRO for the national roll out of “Five Minute Intervention”.  Alan is currently covering the role of Director of Public Sector Prisons on an acting basis.

This will be a fascinating and rare chance to listen to and meet one of the most influential men in the Prison Service. The timing for this event could not be any better, given the current prison reform proposals and the complete reshuffle of the Criminal Justice Ministers, to whom Ian answers. This guest lecture will be of particular interest to practitioners, scholars and students of any discipline.

This is a free and open event. We are eager for anyone, from any area to attend and participate in this event. Also please feel free to share this event with your colleagues who would wish to come along.
