Join Bill Critchley, an experienced coach and supervisor, demonstrate the power of group supervision in this Group Supervision Coaching Fishbowl. Attending coaches will have experienced one-to-one supervision, but not all will have experienced group supervision, where you hear not only from the supervisor, but can also draw on a range of experience from other group members. Coming to this event will give attendees an opportunity to see how group supervision works and whether the format is right for you as a coach.

Bill will demonstrate to attendees how using both the intuitive and thinking responses of the group can be both provocative and supportive to the supervisee. Attendees will also learn that whereas asking good questions can be useful, it can also become a tyranny, both for supervisee and client; often, what is most useful is empathic responding. They will also learn the importance of not being invested in pre-determined outcomes.

Bills coaching approach focuses firstly on creating a relationship which is in service of the client; this means that he can bring himself: his responses, his feelings, his thinking, judiciously into the relationship. He then then takes a ‘systemic’ perspective; in other words, he invites clients to reflect on how they are influenced and shaped by their context. Finally, Bill believes clients often pay insufficient attention to what they do well, so he ensures he takes an appreciative rather than a deficit stance.

Bill Critchley founded the Ashridge coaching programme as well as the Ashridge Masters in Organisation Consulting. He practices not only as a coach and supervisor but also an OD consultant and a psychotherapist, which he became to develop his capability as the former. A surprising thing that attendees may not know about Bill is that he spent time in his 30’s as an amateur actor, and was fortunate enough to get many leading roles, as well as the role of dame in an annual pantomime!

Bill regularly runs Group Supervision sessions for Meyler Campbell Alumni, if you are interested in attending please contact sophieford@meylercampbell.com who will send you the upcoming dates and further information.
