Event description

Description

As waiting lists for therapy continue to remain high; meaning a lot of the population have to wait a long time for access to therapy, group therapy is becoming increasingly used as an effective intervention for many disorders.

Many Therapists argue that for certain disorders; such as social anxiety and self esteem, group therapy is the most effective approach. So what factors, processes and influences exist within groups to make them an effective arena for a change in pathology? How are these applied and facilitated and can these be learned by Therapists or Helpers with little to no group experience? Furthermore, can these be integrated into the practice of more experienced Group Facilitators to enhance an existing skill set? The answer is yes to all of these questions.

Aims of the event:
To discuss models of group process
To introduce Irvin Yalom's 'Therapeutic Factors and Interpersonal Sequence.'
To evaluate what makes groups effective and ineffective
To take part in a Therapeutic Group.
