Join us for a group walk through the area around Spinney Hill Park, taking in some of the work of renowned architect Arthur Wakerley in the late 19th and early-20th century. At around 1.7 miles, this is one of our shorter walks led at a steady pace, pausing for a little information along the way.

Note: This walk has been adapted from our original and popular 'Factory Trail from Spinney Hill Park' which we have split into two separate (shorter) walks, following similar routes. This walk focuses on Arthur Wakerley's legacy in the local area. If you joined our original 'Factory Trail from Spinney Hill Park' in previous years, some of the content will be familiar to you.

Information about the pace of our walks, what to wear/bring, the weather and much more can be found on our City Council Group Walks page.

Travel

East Park Road is served by buses. There is no car park at Spinney Hill Park. There is some on-street parking on residential streets nearby, however it can be difficult to find a space and there are some parking restrictions. If driving, please park with consideration for local residents. Consider making your journey sustainably (by bus, cycle or on foot) - check out the Journey Planner tool to help you plan your journey from A to B.

Booking Information

This short walk is free to attend, but places are limited. Please book via Eventbrite. Alternatively, phone 0116 373 7589 (Monday to Friday, 9am-5.30pm). We regret our phone line is not staffed at weekends or bank holidays. Booking is required for adults, but not required for children (under 16). Children are welcome but must be accompanied by an adult. Please check the walk details to ensure it is suitabile for your child's abilities.

If you are no longer able to attend, please cancel via Eventbrite or contact us by phone so we can allow others the opportunity to attend.

New Walkers

If you have not walked with Leicester City Council before we will ask you to complete our Walker Registration form. You will receive an email in the days leading up to the event with information about how to do this. You only need to complete our New Walker form once and can attend any of our walks thereafter (subject to booking a place on Eventbrite). The form is for adults only, children are not required to complete it.

Dress for the weather

Our group walks will go ahead in most weather. We recommend the following:

  • Comfortable sturdy footwear
  • Bring a raincoat or umbrella in case of rain
  • On cooler days wear appropriate layers and a coat/jacket
  • On warmer days sunscreen and a sunhat are advisable
  • Please bring a bottle of water with you.

Group size

We kindly ask our walkers to book a place, to keep our group size manageable.
