Event description

Description

Grow your Group is an interactive workshop spread over three half days that will help your Scout Group to grow both adult and youth members and be more sustainable. It will probably change your view on volunteering for Scouting. Put simply, it’s about more people, doing less but having more fun!

Day 1: Sunday 21st January (1.00pm – 5.00pm)

Ready steady recruit

A session that looks at how we can get ourselves into the right situation to help us recruit new adults. We’ll also look at what might be preventing us from recruiting and how we can break down those barriers.

Its’ a walk in the park. The 6 steps to recruitment

A lively fun session that looks at tried and tested methods of recruiting new adults. We’ll look at the different steps and how they fit together as well as how to move forward if one of the steps doesn’t seem to work.

We don’t need superheroes we just need you!

This lively session will look at what your member’s parents may think and why we need to work with them. It will also look at how we can work with parents more often to really get them interested in Scouting

Too busy to help…. Think again!

Get ready to think differently about Vacancies as we look at how we can write exciting vacancy cards and where we can advertise them. The sky really is the limit

Day 2: Sunday 25th February (1.00pm – 5.00pm)

There is always room for more!

Opening new sections can bring new life to the whole group. It may seem scary but it can be really simple to do. Here we look at how we can grow with new sections in really simple steps

It’s all about the kerb appeal. House doctoring your Group

Its’ all about the kerb appeal!”! We need to ensure everyone knows where we are and how to join us so this workshop looks at how we can have a more visible presence in the local community by creating a fab network of contacts

Share the secret formula. Open events and taster sessions.

Our Secret formula is our amazing programmes and fun activities and we need to share that with everyone! If we show adults and young people the fun that we have during a an open event it’s easy to recruit new adult and youth members.

Sealing the deal. How to ask and selling scouting

Everyone hates being told no and sometimes that stops us from even asking! So we will look at how we get into the right situation to ask adults to help us and how we can sell scouting and retain those adults that are interested?

Day 3: Sunday 18th March (1.00pm – 5.00pm)

Follow the Leader. Understanding the volunteer journey

So that we can welcome new adults into Scouting we need to understand what new adults need to know. So this workshop looks at how we can support new adults and make them feel welcome and really part of the team.

Young people are noisy but do we hear what they say?

Young people are noisy and have a lot to say about what they like, but do we really hear them? This session looks at how we can really engage with our youth members to make sure they help to shape scouting locally.

Making Noise. How to promote your Group.

Shouting for Scouting – it’s all about making NOISE! A great session that looks at publicity and marketing and online media that can really help us to market and promote our groups.

Well I have started - so I’ll finish!

Those who fail to plan, plan to fail. Working in your Groups we can look at the ideas from the Workshops. Together you can pick which ones you want to action and create a plan of how to do it, set dates and really start to plan your recruitment goals.

REMEMBER:

The workshop works best when your Group is well represented, with participants from all your Sections (Beavers, Cubs and Scouts) together with members of your Executive Committee. Please try and attend all three Sundays as the continuity adds to the success of the event. Representation from the group can include parents, Executive members, leaders, helpers and managers.
