Event description
How can churches effectively grow faithful disciples in every generation?

About this Event

This session will challenge you to think intentionally about ‘engaging younger generations’ and to explore the opportunities and challenges of growing faith and building an authentic, intergenerational church.

Together we will explore:

  • the language and context of family services and all-age worship
  • children and young people playing active roles in the life of the church
  • what it means to be an intergenerational church family
  • what enables intergenerational worship to floursh in the parishes in which we minister

Facilitating and guiding the session will be:

Mary Hawes serves the Church of England as National Children and Youth Adviser. Prior to her appointment she has trained as a teacher, worked for Scripture Union, was a Cathedral Education Officer and became Children’s Adviser for the Diocese of London. She is Assistant Priest in a parish in Teddington and in her spare time, chairs the local school governing body.

Murray Wilkinson is the 'Growing Faith Enabler for the Church of England. He started out as a zoologist but left the world of bats and mole-rats to begin a career in youth ministry at a large suburban church in Cape Town, South Africa. Murray and his wife moved to the UK in 2005 working for a small rural parish church in West Kent. Murray has been the Children and Young People’s Ministry Adviser for the Diocese of Canterbury for over eight years. In response to the challenges facing the church, he has developed the concept of ‘Whole Church’ concept - an evolving idea about the place of children and young people in our churches today.
