Event description

Description

Growing Flowers for Cutting

This event is suitable for those with little or no experience of growing flowers for cutting from seed.

Learn how to make a cut flower garden from scratch. We will show you how, using a mix of annuals, bulbs and perennials, you can have armfuls of flowers for cutting from early summer through to late autumn.

In this workshop, you will learn:

  • Site selection and preparation

  • How to tailor what you grow to your needs

  • How to create a planting plan

  • Which varieties of your favourite plants to choose for long vase life and continuity of supply

  • How to sow annuals direct and under cover, aftercare and planting out

  • Which are the most useful shrubs (including roses) and herbaceous perennials for cutting

  • Which are the best tulips and dahlias for cutting

  • Plant cultivation and care: staking, netting, feeding, deadheading

You will have some hands-on practice of sowing into trays and sowing directly into the soil. At the end of the workshop, we'll give you some cottage garden favourites to plant out in your new patch!

Cost includes all materials.

Hosted by Charlotte Villiers, head of the Crocus Garden School

Charlotte has a decade of experience in growing cut flowers for home use and will draw on this to teach you how to work out what you want to grow and how much of it!

Charlotte will also recommend some of her favourite varieties based on continuity of supply and usefulness in arrangements.
