Growing Resilience Workshop

Sunday February 23rd 9.30am - 5pm, High Bickington Community Centre

FREE workshop hosted by Sacred Hearth part of Extinction Rebellion North Devon

Growing Resilience is a day-long workshop based on Joanna Macy’s ‘The Work That Reconnects’. It’s an inspirational interactive group process, designed to help us find solidarity, community and the courage to take action to heal our world. The work is rooted in deep ecology as well as Buddhist and indigenous spiritual traditions.

Joanna Macy, eco-philosopher and activist, has developed this work over the course of 60 years. The process follows a spiral sequence that begins with gratitude, followed by honouring our pain for the world, seeing with new and ancient eyes, and finally, going forth; helping us to re-connect with ourselves, each other and the web of life. During the workshop we will explore how we can support ourselves as individuals as well sustain the resilience of our local communities - including the XR community – by nurturing our passion and courage to take action in the face of this unprecedented planetary emergency.

Neil Spencer lives locally, he will lead the workshop, he began his training with Joanna Macy in 1999. Neil delivered a precursor to this workshop at Tapeley (September 2019), this is an opportunity to take part in the full day long workshop. As a professional facilitator, he has over 24 years of experience, working with groups in a range of sustainability settings.

The Work that Reconnects helps people discover and experience their innate connections with each other and the self-healing powers of the web of life, transforming despair and overwhelm into inspired, collaborative action.” Joanna Macy
