Growing Whole-life Disciples in a Baptist Context
Event Information
Description
How can we help Baptist churches in the UK to learn to live out the earliest, shortest, and simplest Christian creed that ‘Jesus is Lord’ of all? This creed is the essence of whole-life discipleship - a movement that has the potential to shape culture and set missional DNA at the heart of gathered and scattered church life.
How can we help equip followers of Jesus to become fruitful disciples in the world?
How might a ‘frontline’ understanding of people’s lives affect the way we preach, worship, pray, pastorally care, and live together?
How could a fresh grasp of our scattered lives make our gathered lives even more significant?
How can whole-life discipleship become an overriding and guiding value, rather than just an extra thing to do?
Where, as the Baptist family, do we grow from here?
Join Ken Benjamin and Lindsay Caplen for a day exploring all these questions and more, as we learn from one another and develop practical plans to help take our churches forward. We’ll share resources, strategies, and stories to help your church flourish as a community of God’s people, making a difference wherever you are. We’ll explore together how we as Baptist leaders can help our church communities to live well as disciples of Christ in a rapidly changing culture, engage compellingly with the people we meet, and flourish in mission.
We know that many Baptist churches have already started on the journey of whole-life discipleship. This day is for Baptist church leaders who are already on that journey, as well as for those who are wanting to find out how and where to start. We’d love you to join us.
Ken Benjamin is President Elect of the Baptist Union, becoming President in May 2019. One of his key priorities is whole-life discipleship.
Lindsay Caplen is a Baptist Minister who works for LICC. She has a passion for discipleship and for the church in its new expressions and inherited forms. Her key role is to accompany Baptist churches, providing training and support as they journey deeper with this call to whole-life discipleship.
