Event description

Description

Summer evening workshops for church musicians, singers, cantors, clergy, and music leaders to learn new songs(liturgical music and Mass settings) and skills to improve music in Catholic churches. Suitable for participants from churches with abundant or limited musical resources, exploring music in different styles. Come to one, a few, or all five in the series:

Tuesday 13th June: Getting the most out of your parish hymnal - delving deeper into Laudate, Celebration for Everyone, and Hymns Old & New to discover songs and other pieces we may have overlooked.

Tuesday 20th June: Singing more of the Mass - exploring some of the new musical Mass settings written since the 2010 Mass translation was introduced.

Tuesday 27th June: Songs from different sources - looking beyond the usual hymnbooks to some online sources where you can obtain (for little or nothing) new songs to refresh your repertoire.

Tuesday 4th July: What to sing when at Mass - resourcing you with enough songs to keep you singing at the Entrance, Offertory, Communion, and as everyone leaves the church to spread the Gospel.

Tuesday 11th July: Singing special services - what to sing when the worship pattern changes from a regular Sunday Mass, for example, Processions for Palm Sunday and Candlemas, Sequences for Easter and Pentecost

FAQs

Who are the sessions for?

Anyone involved in church music. We will focus on singing, but you can bring instruments if you wish - let Frances know in advance any instruments you're bringing.

Do I need to be able to read music?

Sessions are open to people of all musical abilities, and the music will be taught by ear, so there's no need to be able to read music or sight-sing.

Do I have to come to all sessions?

You may choose to come to one, a few, or all of the sessions.

What are my transport/parking options for getting to and from the event?

Plenty of parking on-site, or take the 292 bus from Elstree & Borehamwood station.

What should I bring to the event?

All the handouts and music will be provided. You may find it useful to bring a pencil. If you are bringing a musical instrument, please also bring a music-stand.

How can I contact the organiser with any questions?
