 Speakers Include

Funke Abimbola FRSA

General Counsel & Head of Financial Compliance, Roche

Funke is a senior solicitor and diversity leader working full time, her current role involves leading legal (UK/Ireland/Malta/Gibraltar), corporate (UK) and financial (UK) compliance functions for Roche, the world’s largest biotech company. She has a background as a corporate solicitor working within 4 different law firms over a 12 year period before joining Roche over 5 years ago (initially to lead legal team but then promoted 3 times since then). Funke now sits on several senior leadership teams and lead 2 of them. Funke is a Newcastle law school graduate, she bucked the family trend and is the only lawyer in the family (everyone else is a doctor in her family) and she been practising as a solicitor for almost 17 years, having dual qualified as a lawyer (England & Wales and Nigeria).

Funke struggled to get an entry level legal role to qualify as a solicitor 17 years ago - receiving constant rejections upon sending out CV and covering letter – so she decided to pick up the phone and cold-call top corporate law firms and companies to secure entry-level position; making 150 phone calls over a 2 week period securing several interviews and an entry level role with a large, public company.

David Neita

David Neita is a lawyer, a published poet, and motivational speaker specialising in change management. He is a commentator on race, politics, mental health and the arts, based in the UK.  An advocate for human rights and an expert in organisational development and mental health, David has worked with the Zurich Corporation, Hartford Financial Services and NASA and has delivered a sermon at St Paul's Cathedral in London on Redemption and Transformation.

He has an MA in Cultural Leadership, volunteers his time in the community and served as the UK ambassador for the European Year of Equal Opportunity for All: Face of the Year Campaign. In 2012, David was included in Black Enterprise's list of the Top 10 most powerful black men in Britain and was selected by the BBC to provide perspective and comment on the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington.
