This one day workshop has been designed with newly appointed Group Scout Leaders (GSLs) in mind. However, we are also happy to welcome those who have been in the role for a while and would like an update; those undertaking parts of the role as an Assistant Group Scout Leader (or similar) and anyone interested in knowing more about the GSL's role.
The day covers the following
Role of the GSL
Looking at the key aspects of the role including providing direction, working with people and managing your time and skills
How to construct a constitutional executive according to current POR together with a look at what the primary functions and responsibilities of the executive committee are and where you can find additional support and information.
Managing your Group
A ‘hands on’ look at the types of issues that arise within the leadership and management of a Scout Group.
What we have to do to ensure the Safety Policy is fully implemented locally
Support Available to You
Covering the support that is available to you including how to handle complaints.
Introduction to development planning
A look at the need, importance and benefits of planning and how to use the current Development Planning toolkits
Dress code: This is an informal workshop so uniform is not needed. We would suggest smart casual clothing.
Bring: A note pad and pen. You will be given a copy of the 'GSL Essentials' and other supporting materials.
Refreshments: Tea, coffee and biscuits will be available at intervals during the day.
Lunch: A free buffet style lunch (Sandwiches, Soup, Salad, Hot dish, Vegetarian hot dish, Dessert) will be provided in the Restaurant.
